ABOUT - If art imitates life, Carmen Li's work instinctively
gives expression to and provides a reflection of her
own life experiences. As her assemblage derives identity from
the designation placed upon it, Carmen's identity has been inspired
by a rich exposure to a variety of traditions, cultures, philosophies
and circumstances.

Background

Carmen Li was born in Hong Kong, and from an early age, was influenced by a strong family tradition. She attended the Swire School of Design of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where she rapidly became active in design circles while working in several established Hong Kong studios. Prior to the handover of Hong Kong in 1996, Carmen moved to New York, where she worked at several design firms before founding Creasia Design in 2004, which is now a successful design business, servicing more than 50 clients.

Art remains her raison d’être however, and she continues to challenge commonplace perceptions of what art is about.

Although New York is now Carmen’s and her husband, Stephen’s adopted home, she frequently travels to London, Tokyo, Singapore and Hong Kong, where she actively seeks new material for her work.
